Does bike insurance cover a bike on a car rack?
Yes. BikeInsure covers accidental damage to your bicycle or e-bike while it is mounted on a vehicle bike rack and properly secured during transit.
Transit coverage is included with every BikeInsure policy, allowing riders to transport cycling equipment with confidence — from local rides to destinations across the United States and Canada.
If a covered accident occurs — for example, a motorist crashes into the mounted bicycle — the policy pays the cost to restore the insured equipment — the enrolled bicycle and listed accessories — to its pre-loss condition using new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or equivalent parts, including labor and applicable tax, based on a written estimate from a local bike shop of the policyholder's choice, up to the Item Amount of Insurance, less the $150 deductible.
If the bicycle or e-bike cannot be repaired, the policy pays the replacement-cost value for equipment of substantially similar kind and quality, which may be based on a newer model, up to the Item Amount of Insurance shown on the Declarations page, less the $150 deductible.
Coverage applies to the enrolled bicycle or e-bike, and to the listed accessories. Neither the vehicle nor the bike rack is insured.
