What does bike insurance not cover?
BikeInsure is designed to protect cycling equipment from sudden and accidental physical loss — but like all insurance policies, some situations are not covered.
BikeInsure covers the bicycle or e-bike and listed accessories — not people, medical bills, or liability.
Below is a plain-language summary of common exclusions. Always refer to the policy for the full terms and definitions.
BikeInsure generally does not cover:
Medical or bodily injury
- Injuries to the rider or others
- Medical expenses or liability claims
Normal wear, maintenance, or gradual damage
- Mechanical or electrical breakdown not caused by an accident
- Cosmetic wear, scratches, corrosion, or aging
- Routine maintenance, adjustments, or tune-ups
- Manufacturer defects (covered by warranty instead)
Unattached or personal items
- Clothing, shoes, glasses, phones, or earbuds
- Items stored inside bags
- Accessories taken by themselves when the bicycle is not stolen
Unsecured or unexplained loss
- Mysterious disappearance or misplacement
- Theft when the bicycle was not secured while unattended
- Theft by a carrier, shipper, airline, or delivery service while in their custody
Vehicles and unrelated property
- The vehicle transporting the bike
- Bike racks or mounting hardware
Non-eligible vehicles
- Electric motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, or other motorized vehicles that do not meet Class 1–3 e-bike standards (up to 750 watts and 28 mph pedal assist)
BikeInsure covers sudden accidental damage while riding or in transit, and theft when optional theft protection is selected.
When in doubt, review the full policy terms or contact BikeInsure before assuming a situation is excluded.
