Christian Vande Velde

Christian Vande Velde is a retired American professional road racing cyclist of Belgian descent, who rode professionally between 1998 and 2013. Christian competed for the US Postal, Liberty Seguros, Team CSC and Garmin-Sharp squads. He is the son of United States Bicycling Hall of Fame inductee John Vander Velde.

Christian twice rode on the Tour de France team that brought Lance Armstrong to victory, in 1999 and 2001. With Slipstream-Chipotle’s team time trial Giro D’italia win in 2008, he became the first American to wear the Maglia Rosa since Andy Hampsten in 1988. Christian then finished the 2008 Tour de France in fourth place.

Christian is currently a color commentator for NBC Sports Group’s pro cycling coverage. Christian married his high school sweetheart, Leah in 2002. Together they reside in Lemont, IL with their two daughters.
